CHAPTER 31 THE OVERNIGHT RETURN 2009

It was August 10th, 2009 and we were determined to get at least one overnight
at the ranch. Mike and James both decided it might be good to visit the spot
in the long canyon with the water hole at the end. I had spent the night there
about three years earlier (see chap 26). The weather was to be warm and the
moon almost full. Sounds like a great time for all. There had been rain off
and on so the flowers were all around.

The canyon was a long one and the temp was almost 100 degrees. I had been Working out to prepare for the trek with the big pack.

The canyon is long with tributaries that develop into deep gorges that are all but impossible to cross with these type of packs.

The first problem is to find a tributary to hide the H2 for the overnight. We will be an hour hike away and will not be able to see it, but we do not anyone else to see it if someone should come in the area. As usual it did not all go as planned, I thought we needed to climb up to get Around the narley gourges and Mike and Jame decided to take the shortest route thru the gourges. HA! Not likely. They got imeshed in the deep and narley hike. I did not think that I could make the last climb but did and arrived at the water hole before them.

Now we could see the open canyon to our east toward the car and the mouth of the canyon with the water hole.

What it is all about is wood for the fire. James did a great job and developed The wood we would need for the night. Three people right? Guess what three Opinions on where to camp on the to of this overlook. After moving all the Wood we ended up at the exact site I created three years earlier. My fire Circle was still in place next to the antler I found and left last time.

Camp went as I expected. Mike with his chaise lounge, bunk, blankets and conveniences took the edge of the cliff. I took the same spot I had last Time where if I laid down I could look down at the water hole 300 feet Below. James was in between us.

We could not understand why only a few animals seemed present until We hear the big cat about 2am. In the morning Mike provided the instant Coffee and we still had some fine food.

A wonderful experience was had by all: the keywords are: Wild, Stars, alone, danger, peace, comradeship, nature.. And a thousand others.
